Child’s Play – a celebration of childhood
Saturday, 11th August @ 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 9:00am on Saturday, repeating until Monday, 31st December ,2018
A new exhibition giving children a taste of life in the Victorian era will open at the Museum of Wigan Life in time for Easter half term.
‘Child’s Play – a celebration of childhood’, is a free, interactive experience giving families an insight into Victorian life through dress up, games and education and will be open for visitors from Tuesday 3rd April.
Child’s Play will replace the popular Animal Mummies Uncovered display, a touring exhibition produced by Manchester Museum.
Offering an interactive chimney sweep activity, a Victorian school room complete with slate, chalk and even teacher dress for parents plus traditional school yard games, the Museum of Wigan Life is keen to show children the stark contrast to childhood in the modern day.
Donna Hall, Chief Executive at Wigan Council and lead officer for arts and culture in Greater Manchester said: “Child’s Play will give children a look into a completely different way of life. They will revel in the alternative, traditional games and dress up opportunities, all the while learning about the poverty and experiences of young people in the nineteenth century.
“The Museum of Wigan Life consistently displays engaging content from Wigan Casino to Ancient Egypt and even the Museum at Night events – there’s an event for everyone to enjoy.
“There’s no doubt that Child’s Play will be yet another popular display and an experience families will remember for years to come.”
Child’s Play – a celebration of childhood will be available to view at the museum until after the summer holidays.
