The Something New Show

Thursday, 17th October @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm

The Something New Show Octobers onwards.

The Holding Cell will once again house to Wigan’s loveliest night of poetry, comedy and improv. All hosted by Casino Improv and, as always, free entry.

We’re joined by Rave Poet Donald Jenkins and Andy Quirk and his Lead Backup Dancer, Anna J. Spectate or join the open mic section!

#ravepoet – Donald Jenkins is a spoken word artist based in Newcastle upon Tyne. He won the Great Gateshead Slam 2018, has performed at Glastonbury and the Albert Hall and has warmed up for Buddy Wakefield, Mark Grist, and Jess Green with his own energetically charged performances. His poems have featured in the anthology- ‘New Word Order’ as well as ‘The Writer’s Cafe’ and ‘Riggwelter’ journals. Donald is the organiser and host of ‘Born Lippy’, Newcastle’s ‘monthly celebration of all things wordy’. He is a self-confessed proud raver with poems regaling hedonistic tales of his 25-year career as a rave music enthusiast.

Missionaries for the mildly annoyed, Andy Quirk and his Lead Backup Dancer, Anna J, travel the country railing against the frustrations of modern living. Bad nights out, retail nightmares and hipster excess all get a withering tongue lashing. A regular headliner, Andy and Anna perform across the country and have appeared at numerous fringe festivals plus three full runs at Edinburgh.

Despite claiming to lead a large crew, Andy’s hype-men are suspiciously absent at every show (bar back-up dancer Anna J) and so it falls to the audience to take their place as backing singers, percussionists and whatever else is required. Active and raucous with a chalk and cheese narrative between rapper and dancer, it’s a show you’re unlikely to forget.

18 and over only

Show Begins at 8:00pm
