DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first ever Big Wigan Walk Week (27 May – 4 June 2023) our borough-wide celebration of the pleasures and benefits of walking. \nWe have a whole host of free events planned over the course of nine days\, including nature-themed strolls around our beautiful local green spaces and walking routes of historical interest. \nWe’ll also be showcasing our wonderful TfGM Bee Network\, an initiative to make it easier and safer to walk and cycle throughout Greater Manchester. \nAll our walks will be between 30 minutes and an hour long\, with different levels of challenge available – from beginners to the more advanced. \nThe Big Wigan Walking Week really is for everyone so grab your walking shoes and get involved! \n  \nSee the full timetable online and details here \n

SUMMARY:Climate. Emergency. Hope
DESCRIPTION:The Turnpike Gallery is presenting an exciting new exhibition exploring some of the urgent issues around the climate emergency. It includes a range of artwork by local\, national and international artists\, curated by a team of young people. \nOur Young Curators have been meeting since October 2022\, facilitated by creative practitioner\, Liz Postlethwaite. Arising from discussions\, presentations and gallery visits\, the exhibition aims to share young people’s voices through the work of artists. Included in the exhibition are video\, photography\, textiles\, banners\, sculpture\, text\, alongside a programme of events and activities. Artists include: Rebecca Chesney\, Robyn Woolston\, Gregory Herbert\, David Maisel\, Klaus Thymann\, Nerissa Cargill Thompson\, Amy Twigger Holroyd\, Chitra Merchant\, Helen Bendon\, Richard Shilling\, Maya Chowdhry\, Sophy King\, Jane Lawson\, Brigitte Jurack\, Carolyn Morton. \nCentral to the project is the contribution young people have made in choosing and interpreting artworks which communicate the imminent threat of climate change but also propose solutions. \nThere will be a programme of events and activities for adults\, children\, families and schools during the exhibition. A musical set in the hustle and bustle of New York City in 1930’s. It tells the over lapping story of high roller Sky Masterson who falls in love with Sarah Brown\, a missionary worker\, and lovable rapscallion Nathan Detroit who has been engaged for 14 years to MIss Adelaide – a headliner at the Hot Box Club. \nSky is challenged to raise $1\,000 to finance an illegal crap game by taking Sarah to Havana. But of course they fall in love and the real reason for the bet is revealed – all characters must resolve the dilemma and try to evade the clutches of the police – Lt.
