DESCRIPTION:We’re bringing you a FREE music night in the Bailiff\, and lets just say you can expect something small and something jazzy – Pocket Jazz. Inspired by Valves\, Vinyl and Jazz night\, Haden Boardman will host a fun evening that will showcase local jazz new and old.\n\n19th October. Returning to The Old Courts\, Mike Ciaputa is known for his past performances across the North West\, both with the Ciaputa Trio and as a solo artist. Performing a new set that bridges his previous trio project and his solo acoustic endeavours\, including music from the ‘String Theory’ album\, prepare to be immersed in a sonic landscape that seamlessly blends organic acoustic tones with ambient electric textures. Mike’s musical palette is rich and diverse\, Influenced by the likes of Stuart McAllum\, Andy Mckee\, Mateus Asato\, Gilad Hekselman\, and Julian Lange. His compositions reflect a modern jazz ethos that defies genre boundaries. Delve into an evening of intricate melodies and masterful guitar craftsmanship and a love of all things guitar.\n\n16th November. Part of our remit\, both at The Old Courts and our Pocket Jazz series\, is to encourage the development of jazz players. Luke Gee is a familiar face on the North West music scene\, especially around the Wigan area. As a solo artist\, and a member of several of Wigan’s popular music scene bands. Including Tommy Jones’s Quaintest Show on Earth. Luke is a highly skilled guitar player\, with his own unique energy and playing style. With a keen interest in jazz\, and a phenomenal musical style across all genres\, this will be Luke’s first public outing as a player of jazz\, and we look forward to welcoming him to the Bailiff Bar to play his set.\n\n21st December. This will be Phil Shotton’s second outing for our Pocket Jazz series\, along with the equally talented Matt Lowton on stand up bass. Phil regularly performs alongside many national and international jazz artists and has appeared at major jazz festivals\, venues and music festivals throughout the country and abroad. Highly sought-after as both a performer and recording artist\, Phil has released two albums under his own name and appeared on numerous recordings as a sideman. We look forward to welcoming both Phil & Matt back to the Bailiff Bar for our final concert of 2023.

DESCRIPTION:Standishh Christmas markets are back for 2023\, bigger and better than ever! Here’s a quick rundown of the highlights of the day. \n  \nAs always\, the Friends of Standish Library have arranged for the big man to come and check in with some of Standish’s lucky kids in his Grotto in the library. Unfortunately time slots are sold out and it’s strictly ticket only – he’s a busy guy. However\, there’s loads of other kids entertainment in the library too\, so if you’re hiding from the cold\, waiting to see Santa or just want to see what’s going on\, it’s a great place to be.\nThe stage will no doubt be one of the main attractions of the day\, and here’s the full line up for this year. With our three primary school choirs kicking us off from 11am\, followed by 8 hours of bands\, artists and a special guest appearance by Andy and Raf\, the Bake Off: The Professionals finalists from Harwoods Patisserie (the shop is also open on the day). To close we have Pie-verotti\, aka Neil Dunlop bringing some fantastic festive bangers!\nCross Street Arts will be exhibiting some of their artist’s work\, holding an open studio event and also selling their work at their stall on Cross Street too.\nMake your way to Standish Methodist Church at noon and you can see the Prospect Garage Brass Band bringing some traditional Christmas music to the church steps\, then head inside to discover what’s in their two craft halls.\nAnd since it’s Christmas\, it’s not all about mulled wine\, music and shopping yourself into a coma. The Brick will be returning after the success of last year’s collection at Standish Christmas Market. See the attached photo for details of what they’ll be collecting and where your donations will be going. \nThere’s plenty going on at the Standish Methodist Church! As well as the two craft halls inside\, refreshments and the Prospect Band performance at noon\, there’s something a bit different from 1pm with the Wigan Rock Choir belting out some classics. Also on the carpark will be the returning family favourite\, the living Nativity from Allday’s Farm – The Country Learning Farm.\nMeanwhile\, on the library lawn on Cross Street you’ll find more live music from two brilliant northwest talents – Erika Ignata Music and @aidan_egerton_music to keep you entertained while you shop and make the most of the Snowglobe. \nOn the St Wilfrid’s parish hall carpark\, you’ll find the stage and drinks marquees\, with this year’s bars operated once again by Kev and Co at the Albion Ale House Micropub\, the Standish Voice mulled wine and prosecco bar and newcomers The Furlong Mobile Bar.\nIf you still haven’t had enough\, you can head to another of our Gold Sponsors\, Asylum Standish for amazing food and live DJ from 9pm till late.
