DESCRIPTION:Wigan Pride promotes and celebrates equality and diversity by bringing together arts\, music\, street parade and positive messages at a big annual event in Wigan. \n  \nFor 2023\, we’re proud to bring you a mix of fantastic local talent from the North-West\, amazing tribute acts\, and a couple of fabulous drag artists. \n\nRetrieve your rainbows\, raid your closet for something pink\, white\, or blue\, and get ready to have your say in style: Wigan Pride will back on Saturday\, August 12th in Wigan town centre.\n\n\nOur free\, family friendly summer event will bring a celebration of Northern music and entertainment to the stage.\n\n\nThis year we also plan to acknowledge the role both Pride events and people from the region have played as pioneers of social change.\n\n\nFor the last few years\, each Wigan Pride event has celebrated a different colour from the Pride flag.\n\n\nThis year\, everyone is invited to dress in shades of pink\, white\, and blue\, inspired by the transgender flag\, alongside the usual splash of rainbows.\n\n\nAJ Gagen is the newest volunteer to help organise Wigan Pride.\n\n\nShe said:\n“Wigan Pride is so important to me because it shows that no matter who you are\, there’s a community who will love and accept you.\n\n\n“This year we wanted to show our support for the local transgender community.\n\n\n“Trans people make up a very small percentage of the community but statistically they are at the highest risk of experiencing bullying and hate crime.\n\n\n“So\, we wanted to reinforce the message that everyone will be welcomed at Wigan Pride.\n\n\n“The LGBTQ+ community is a safe place\, one that will uplift you and show you pathways that you never thought existed. I am proud to be part of this community and we want everyone in the borough to be proud of who they are.”

Saturday 25th March Zha Olu takes the stage\, bringing all the good vibes. \nAbout: \nThe Wigan born\, Leeds based\, Zha returns to Bailiff Bar with a balanced mix of melancholic folk\, soul and pop and exploring real life experiences\, both personal and what Zha is a truly unique talent who observes in the world around her and you can feel that in her music and performing. \nBeing on the local music scene since 2016\, she has supported the likes of The Lottery Winners\, Mica Paris\, Dave McCabe (Zutons) & Ian Skelly (The Coral). \nZha has worked on many projects affiliated with The Old Courts. Last month she starred in ‘What Do You See’\, a show which challenged unconscious bias which was part of a three year project called Moving Roots. \nAs well as her own stuff she has been on the gig scene putting her own twist on popular covers using vocals\, acoustic guitar and percussive stomp pedal.
