{"id":37632,"date":"2022-09-14T14:06:01","date_gmt":"2022-09-14T13:06:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wiganeventsguide.com\/?post_type=tribe_events&#038;p=37632"},"modified":"2022-09-14T14:31:26","modified_gmt":"2022-09-14T13:31:26","slug":"folk-in-the-bailiff","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/www.wiganeventsguide.com\/event\/folk-in-the-bailiff\/","title":{"rendered":"Folk in The Bailiff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Join brilliant local singer-songwriter Lawrence Hoy for a relaxed evening of song and storytelling, accompanied by fantastic fellow musicians.<\/p>\n<p>Doors \u2013 7pm<\/p>\n<p>Performance time \u2013 7:30pm<\/p>\n<p>Featured artist \u2013 9pm.<\/p>\n<p>Free entry, musicians &amp; singers welcome.<\/p>\n<p>Lawrence Hoy has been writing songs for as long as he can remember; like thousands of others in the 60s he played in a rock band, but only rarely deviated from the standards to put in a song or lyric of my own.<\/p>\n<p>Hoy began to sing as a solo folk singer-songwriter \u2018doing the rounds\u2019 of the Singers\u2019 Nights in Folk Clubs during the 1980s; mainly because these places were the only venues where he could sing his own songs and perform his own poems. This is something he has continued to do ever since.<\/p>\n<p>A keen historian and with roots firmly in all things Wigan and Lancashire, he\u2019s enjoyed good critical success as a songwriter and poet, with \u201cBeyond The Seas\u201d, \u201cLancashire\u2019s Beautiful\u201d and in song-writing competitions: winning a \u2018best comedy song\u2019 at Hindley Folk Club; best dialect poem at Leigh Folk Club; \u2018best song in the Lancashire dialect\u2019 at Gregson Lane Folk Club; as well as several occasions with \u2018honourable mentions\u2019; and his latest success, in 2017, with \u2018On The Road To Wigan Pier\u2019, a song to commemorate 80 years since the publication of the iconic George Orwell book: the winning entry in the Diggers song writing competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Join brilliant local singer-songwriter Lawrence Hoy for a relaxed evening of song and storytelling, accompanied by fantastic fellow musicians.
